Walking Safaris

Experiencing Africa's wilderness areas is integral to any Masai mara safari from Nairobi, and there's no better way than on foot. Be one with nature by embarking on a walking safari in the African wilderness. Walking safaris in Africa are completely different to game drives—you take a relaxed, guided walk in a wildlife conservation, such as Masai Mara, and get to see wild animals in a more natural way away from the comfort of a 4WD safari vehicle.

Being on foot awakens your senses as the bush becomes more ‘real’ as you experience the sounds and smells just as our ancestors did. Encountering animals as a mere participant in their world can be far more rewarding than just spectating—few things are as humbling as meeting a wild elephant on foot.

Walks typically last two to four hours. Your safari guide will identify tracks, pinpoint interesting insects, explain fascinating plants and tell you more about the ecosystem in general. Walking safaris in Africa are a great way to appreciate the smaller wildlife, which isn’t so easy to see from a vehicle, as well as to experience the buzz of being out with the big game.

We offer walking safaris in most of our African safari tours, the most popular one being walking safaris in Masai Mara. The form of your walking safari will vary considerably between the countries, reserves and camps.
